Pattern Description:

Stuffed sloth craft pattern by Aardvark to Zebra.

Pattern Sizing:

Finished sloth is 14" long.

Fabric Used:

Long grey faux fur from an etsy vendor, LuxuryFauxFur, black felt for the claws, and grey microsuede for the face. The pattern calls for 1/2 yd fur, I had a generous amount left over but probably not enough to make another sloth.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes, although there are only a few hand drawn diagrams. I have made enough stuffed animals that I do not need a lot of guidance. A beginner who has not worked with faux fur or made stuffed animals may wish to consult some additional tips before starting this project.

This is a fairly simple pattern. There are not that many pattern pieces, and the construction is less fussy than many stuffed animal patterns. The main challenges are working with faux fur and sewing over some thick areas. The instructions do have suggestions of what to do if your sewing machine is not able to sew through the thick layers of fur and claws for the sloth's paws.

Because this pattern has 1/4 inch seam allowances, I did not trim the fur along the seam allowance as would be recommended for a wider seam allowance. If you have not worked with faux fur before, it is good to do some research because there are ways to avoid massive fur shedding when cutting out the fabric and problems with fur getting caught in the seams while sewing.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yeah, pretty much.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

I don't know that I need more sloths, I made this pattern because I have wanted to sew a sloth since the first time I saw this pattern at least 10 years ago. I would recommend it to an advanced beginner, or to a beginner if made in a low-pile fabric.

What an adorable little beastie. Is this sloth of the three-toed variety?

I love it, did you know that some baby sloths fall out of trees because they mistake their own arms for branches.
