Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Other than my variations, yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? They were. This is a very simple pattern, so there isn't much to the construction.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Likes - basic lines that make it easy to adjust to fit your needs, simple and quick to make. Dislikes: The sizing is a little wacky. The long sleeves are disproportionately long for the size. The size 3 is a nearly perfect fit for my 4 1/2 year old other than the length, and I've made this several times, and this has been true for several sizes.
Fabric Used: For the first, a Renaissance Fair costume - polyester taffeta; for the second, a top - quilting cotton; for the third, a Christmas dress - cotton corduroy; for the fourth and fifth, as nightgowns - cotton flannel.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: For the first couple of makes, I sewed her size based on the measurements and they fit well, other than the sleeves being far too long. For the nightgowns, I made a size smaller than her measurements and lengthened to the floor, and the fit is excellent. Design changes have varied. For the first make, a Renaissance Faire costume, I shirred the sleeves with elastic thread around her bicep, added trim at the ruffle seam and lengthened the gown to floor length. I also added a "corset" from another pattern. For the top, I sewed it without alteration. For the Christmas dress, I again shirred around the bicep rather than at the wrist and added trim and buttons. For the nightgowns, I used a size smaller than her measurements and lengthened to floor length. Both gowns were trimmed at center front.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Since I've already used this pattern 5 times, I think it is safe to say I will use it again! I do recommend it as an excellent basic peasant top.
Conclusion: A basic raglan sleeve peasant top/dress is so useful! Easy to alter and make design changes. This pattern has nice, basic lines that make it perfect for this. The sizing may be a little off. I found it worked for me to use a size smaller than indicated and add length to the hemline, but not the sleeves as they are drafted long. |
