Pattern Description: Batwing top with extra long, cut on sleeves.
Pattern Sizing: 36-44
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yep.
Were the instructions easy to follow? They were actually fairly good for Burda, but then, this is a really simple top. No head scratching at all though.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Likes: Simple to make, but still very stylish and fun. Dislike: They are not kidding about those sleeves being extra long!
Fabric Used: Poly/Lycra "Roma" knit from Fabric.com. It looks great, but it was slinky, slippery and curly - total pain to sew.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I noticed that the top was pretty loose fit on all of the fashion photos in the magazine, so I initially cut a size smaller than I usually make in Burda, as I wanted a closer fit, and my knit had a TON of stretch. Since I only had a yard and a half of fabric, and those sleeves are fabric hogs, I shortened them to the maximum length my fabric would allow. That took off 7 inches, but the sleeves are still bracelet length on my average length arms. I wanted a tunic length top, so I cut off the length about halfway between the dress and the top. I added a 1 inch hem allowance onto that, but ended up not hemming the top, as the fabric was giving me fits, and I liked the length as is was. I also added 1 inch to the sides of the neckline, as I didn't want to have to worry about straps showing. Of note - I generally have to do a small (1 inch or so) FBA on Burda patterns, but even a size smaller, this top has room to accommodate my bust.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I sewed this on a whim to go with some leggings I made, but I really like it! It's comfortable but still very stylish and fun to wear. I think I may make it again, and I do recommend it.
Conclusion: This is a fun, easy to sew top that is still pretty trendy, despite being in a 2 year old mag. Do check out the sleeve length before you cut, as you may save yourself some fabric. |

I like that it's a basic, but with a slightly quirkier style. Good choice :-)
