Pattern Description:
'Above-the-knee skirt with back invisible zip' Pattern Sizing:
Burda sizes 34-44. I made size 40 according to my measurements on the size chart (more about sizing later). Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, this is a fairly easy skirt to make. I didn't use all the instructions as I changed a few things and did it my own way. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I think this is a flattering style with just the right amount of flare at the knees. I like the four panels and the decorative topstitching. Fabric Used:
This pattern was supposed to be made from a woven such as flannel. I made mine from cotton lycra knit. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Since I used knit fabric, I omitted the zip and I changed the pockets from a functional welt to a faux welt style. I added some striped knit fabric inside the faux welt for a flash of fun stripe. I also changed the sizing to compensate for the use of the knit fabric. This was unintentionally done right from the start when I traced and cut the pattern without seam allowances (I am not used to working with Burda and didn't realise they had to be added!). This resulted in a perfect fit (although as I was making it I kept wondering how I would have got into it if I'd used a woven fabric). It wasn't until afterwards I realised my mistake! Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This is a very cute little skirt that I have already worn quite a lot. I think I will make it again. I might even try it in a woven if I can remember to add some seam allowances! Conclusion:
I'm pleased with this skirt. It is comfortable and flattering and it fits well. It worked really well in the stretch fabric and is easy to pull on (since I didn't add a zip). When I'd finished it I decided to make the jumper pictured with the skirt in the magazine. For pictures of the jumper and more of the skirt, please visit my blog. |
I really like your skirt and blog! Burda drafts great patterns but yeah, there is a learning curve for sure. The good news is that once you figure it all out, it's always the same. = )

Great skirt! I love the stripes in the pockets! I'll have to take note for a future project. Both tops you made look fantastic with this skirt! :)
