Pattern Description: Very Easy Vogue Pattern. Suitable for 2 way stretch knits only. A sleeveless and a long sleeved, close fitting dress with princess seams and gathering on the front side panels.
Pattern Sizing: BB (8-10-12-14) I am usually a 14 in the Big 4 patterns, but I always go down a size for knit garments, so I cut a size 12. This fitted well. Front
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes except for the change I made to the neckline.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were quite clear and easy to understand.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love that it is quick and easy to make, and I love the flattering feminine shape of the dress. I didn't like the high neckline.
Fabric Used: I used a royal blue panne stretch velvet purchased at my local Bargain Box Fabrics.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I lowered the neckline by approximately 1cm at the back and shoulder seams and lowered it by approximately 5cm at the centre front. Because I made the neck opening bigger, I could get away without adding the opening at the centre back neckline. The dress is easily slipped on over my head. Back I finished off the neckline by sewing on a band in the same fabric (like you would finish a T Shirt). This wasn't a complete success as the fabric doesn't have a great recovery which resulted in the neck band being a little loose and not sitting completely flat. It sits OK after a good pressing. I used "steam a seam lite" on the hem and cuffs and stitched with a twin needle. I'm a little disappointed with the hem. It looks like it stretched while I was sewing despite the "steam a seam" (or maybe I stretched it when applying the "steam a seam").
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I am definitely planning to sew this one again. I'd like to try it using a ponte knit like ArtAttack. I was very inspired by her version. I would definitely recommend trying this one. It's a nice easy project.
