b>Pattern Description:

Misses' Seven Sizes in One" and described by New Look as "easy"

Pattern Sizing:

Misses 10-22, all included in this pattern envelope

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes. I added the cone beads to the ties. I wanted to use turquoise and silver but the only turquoise beads I could find had a too-small hole to get the ties through.

I sewed View E but I omitted the banding at the bottom.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes. Due to all the options, there is some skipping, but the overall flow of sections is reasonably easy to follow.

Illustrations and instructions are clear.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

The pattern offers lots of options and I'm discovering how to make even more!

Fabric Used:

100% redtag clearance fabric from JAF which has been in my stash several years

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I added angled seams at the front and back straps. These were added as a way to correct the cut made by the serger blade which at first I thought meant the top was ruined. Then I had this idea . . .

I actually love seams like these in RTW but you don't see them too much. I'm sure each seam means additional labor and therefore additional cost. I saw how easy it is to add one of these structurally unneccessary, yet visually pleasing seams, and I plan to use this technique in the future.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

The question is how many more times I will sew this pattern. I do not know!

I do recommend it, yes.

Conclusion:

I continue sewing New Look 6891 as though the OPML contest were still going on!

I love this pattern and I am seeing even more ways to change it. Of course, it helped to see what other people did during the OPML. But I also figured out how I could change the pattern to fix the unfortunate cuts made by the serger blade (operator error, not a serger blade on a rampage). This gave me ideas for adding seams to add visual interest as well as to fix the cut fabric.

I will warn you that there is a little bit of overhead to find your fit in these New Look patterns, but the struggle is worth it. I think the New Looks have a lot of style and their relatively simple lines make them easily modifiable into something more complex. This is based on my experience, of course. They are always too long and too wide (for me), but both of those changes are pretty easy to make.

What a cute top-and you are clever to save it with those diagonal seams.

Really cute - I like your angled seams better than without them - so that serger cut was really fortunate - not a disaster at all.
