Pattern Description: Sleeveless Bubble Dress (Ottobre Design Magazine 6/2012#7) Blogged
Pattern Sizing: size 52 to 92 (approx birth to 2 years) I sewed size 68 which is approx 6 months. Ottobre patterns tend to be wide-fitting, but this isn't a problem with this dress as the width in this pattern tends to add to the pretty bubble shape.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, very similar, I applied the ribbon differently and used a combination of fabrics.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, like all Ottobre magazine instructions, they are very detailed and accurate, but there are generally no diagrams or pictures to explain steps. I would imagine that a little sewing experience might be necessary because of this.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Absolutely no dislike, it makes a perfect baby dress.

Fabric Used: Liberty of London baby corduroy and Liberty of London cotton poplin, with white cotton used for the lining
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: One design change was not sewing piping in the bodice curve, as I had planned to attach ribbon on the outside along this curve instead. The other major change was an addition to the pattern. When sewing clothes for babies and children, I am always very careful that the inside is smooth, with no scratchy seams and zips. For this pattern, I added a folded rectangular piece of fabric (sewn at the short ends, trimmed and turned) between the lining and the zip so that the dress would be comfortable to wear. Blogged
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I would sew it again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend it.
Conclusion: A sweet baby dress, which would be perfect as a day dress or special occasion dress depending on the fabric chosen. It is very suitable for this age group, because the short bubble hem is less likely to trip up babies who are crawling and learning to walk and it would look cute on newborns and 2 year olds too. It is a perfect pattern to have on standby when needing to sew something as a baby gift, and I think this will be my 'go-to' pattern for a while.

I saw the Ottobre and clicked immediately. I have fallen in love with several of their designs. I purchased a magazine and plan on making one of the youth dresses for a special occasion. Thank you for the information that the patterns tend to be wide fitting. Great looking dress and helpful review.

What a sweet little dress! And how neat that her dress coordinates with her big sisters. I like the way you covered the zipper as well, I'm sure the mama appreciates that.
