| Pattern Description: Very close-fitting, lined dress has front, back and shoulder straps cut-in-one, no side seam, bias, gathered upper left front, pleated and gathered back, and stitched hem.
Pattern Sizing: 4-20. I made a modified 12
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I think so!
Were the instructions easy to follow? They were not at all bad for an advanced pattern where the instructions are pretty important. A dress like this, where there are bizarre looking pattern pieces and loads of dots to match, gathers, fold lines and pleats is going to be a bit intense to sew and - at least for me - there are always going to be a few moments where I have to puzzle out how it's going to all fit together and what the instructions are trying to tell me. There were one or two places that it could have been slightly more clear or better illustrated, but overall I thought the instruction were pretty good.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It's body-con and yet very very flattering (ie: forgiving of so-called "flaws"). The lining helps smooth things out and the gathers flatter my curves and I think would create curves on a straighter figure. Also, it's an interesting design with it's curved seams and twisted straps.
Fabric Used: Two different weights of silk knit that were a gift! I used the heavier one (which was still lightweight) for the lining, and the tissue weight one (which is pretty sheer) for the outside pieces. I think fabric choice is probably important for this dress. There are LOADS of gathers and pleats and a few areas where gathers are sewn to gathers. Bulky seams could be a real problem. I'm really glad my fabric was so light weight.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Very few! There are no lines for altering this pattern. So, I cut a 12 and added a little at where i thought the hips would fall. I worked out pretty well, although I would probably start with size 10 if I were to do it again.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely I would sew it again, if I had it to do over. But I think that one of these dresses is about all I need in the wardrobe. Yes, I would recommend it to others, but I think that it might not be as easy for a new sewist. There is nothing inherently difficult about this pattern, but I think you have to be confident sewing knits and have a good understanding of the alterations you might need and garment construction to sew it well and pick good fabrics for it.
Conclusion: I love this dress and will be wearing it plenty!

Love the dress! I'm still chuckling about how different you look with and without a wig. I still wouldn't know you were the same person lol.

This is one of my favorite new Vogue releases. I was just waiting for someone to "green light" it. Yes it looks difficult but worth it!

I have found that some "easy vogues" are so poorly drafted that you are better off setting your sights higher and plodding through. DK has certainly come up with some unusual patterns lately. I did the poofy orange dress last summer and the pleats and gathers were endless. The end result is worth the effort in many cases and especially yours...what a knockout!!!
