Thank you novice beginner. Stay tape is a sheer straight tape that is used to stabilize an area on a garment like a neckline, armhole, etc. It is sold on the notions aisle as "Stay Tape" but I don't remember who actually make it. I happened to have some on my sewing box but you can also use twill tape or a piece of the selvage to do the same thing. In this case the stay tape stabilized the top edge of the pocket which is somewhat on the bias. Without the stay tape the edge of the pocket would eventually stretch with wear and would pull away from the body which is not very flattering--especially in the hip area.

The Shorts look really nice. This looks like a great project for my daughter as well. She wants to learn to sew. Thanks for taking the time to write the review and show us the pictures from the others as you get them done. Could you tell me what stay tape is?
