|Pattern Description: |
Semi-fitted sheath dresses have front and back darts, back zip, back slit, sleeve variations and neckline variations.
12-14-16. I cut 16 for the bust area and 14 for the rest.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I sewed this dress in a different order, but yes it was easy.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the style variations, and bought it for the square neck. However after reading other reviews of this pattern saying the square neck gaped, I opted for the bateau neckline and longer sleeves of View E. I needed a basic comfortable dress for special occasions, and not a dress I had to worry about showing too much if I bent over! This is a dress I can wear in fall, winter or early spring.
Sophia stretch double knit from Fabric.com in navy.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
To avoid making a muslin, I tissue fitted my dress form instead. Since I used a knit, which is forgiving, it worked out fine. I shortened the length on the pattern lines and made the sleeves to the elbow. I used an invisible zip, as I think they look more polished and RTW, especially on a long back seam. The only real issues I had were the sleeves. I put one in (I usually put sleeves in flat) and did not like the gathered top at all. I wanted the sleeves smooth, so I altered by cutting down the top of the cap . But I had to measure the armscye to make sure it would fit properly. I really didn't know what I was doing and had a hard time with that part, but it worked out fine in the end. Probably because it was a knit. Whew!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I would like to have one in another color in a lighter knit and sleeveless for warm weather.
This pattern is a quick sew and a flattering style for most women. This is my first review and I hope the photo comes up. I am new to Flickr, so if it isn't there someone please advise me? I also hope just the one pic comes up and not my whole photostream!
