|Pattern Description: LOOSE-fitting dress has collar with casing, yokes (self-lined back, cut on crosswise grain), princess seams, side pockets, back pleat, and hem band. A and C: self-lined cap sleeves. C: stitched hem on sleeves. B and C: front zipper. Purchased drawstring for collar.|
Pattern Sizing: Misses 8-24; I made my usual 12 and it fit great in the shoulders, but was very full after that.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? yes. I really didn't have any problems with the instructions. I did have to read them however because this pattern has a few things in there that you may miss if you didn't. Pleats, facings, buttonhole in collar (which I almost missed)
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the collar, the pleats, seams, curved wide hem band - just about everything.
Fabric Used: I got this pretty linen at Marcy Tilton's site during her linen sale a few weeks ago. I love it! There is no more left, but she does have some other beautiful linens (although no longer on sale) fabrics here
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I "burrito'd" the yoke, so that the shoulder seam was encased (Like I do on a man's shirt). Here's a tutorial about 1/2 down the page burrito yoke [I say why reinvent the wheel if someone else has already demo'd it]
I also put on short sleeves by shortening the long sleeves. While I like the look of the partial capped sleeve, I do not like my arms in them. So, I just shortened the long sleeve that comes with the pattern and made the dress with short sleeves. I really like it. The hem on the sleeves is curved so it is a bit shorter in the center.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would like to make another because it is so comfortable and was actually fun to make. I think this may look nice with a cotton lawn which is thinner and drapier.
Conclusion: I am wearing it today with a belt because it is very loose fitting. I modeled it both ways to my co-workers and have mixed results on belted vs not belted. Most people like it. I'll wear it belted before lunch, and unbelted after to mix it up. Some reviewers said it was short. I personally think if it was longer it may look frumpy because it is so loose fitting. I am 5'8" and I like the length.
