|Pattern Description: |
MISSES' DRESS AND JUMPSUIT: Lined dress or wide-legged jumpsuit has drawstring on shoulders, semi-fitted, gathered bodice overlapping slightly to side back (no side seams), midriff, side pockets, invisible back zipper and narrow hem.
Pattern Sizing: B5 8-16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? I read the instructions a couple of times and was able to follow them fine, however the construction order makes it difficult to properly fit the bodice.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? love the style, don't like the lack of fitting opportunities, especially due to modesty issues with this design. I also found the back too low - below my bra strap
Fabric Used: chiffon with polyester lining
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: lots
I made view B but shortened the trousers to knee length.
I need a very large FBA and was concerned how this would affect the bodice so I tissue fit and made a muslin - FBA of 2.5" each side - all gathered into the bodice gathers
lengthened bodice between bust and waist
shortened at shoulder - also made forward shoulder adjustment, but went a wee bit too far, and this was not apparant until after the it was constructed and the ties were in the shoulders - too late to do anything.
the FBA left me with a major gaping issue at the sides but that was easily fixed by pinching and cutting out a wedge at the bottom of the bodice
I added 2" to the bottom of the waist panel and the top of the trouser pieces mostly at the side seams but I cut and spread the front
after measuring the crotch I lengthened the trousers by 1"
I didn't like the idea of top stitching around the midriff so I slip-stitched from the inside
I'm finding the front gapes a bit - a common occurance for me - but I'll stitch the front crossover closed
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? yes I'll probably use this again, it hides my tummy better than I expected, next tie I'll probably move the shoulders towards the CF a bit as it seems to run wide at the shoulders and even with the changes I made it feels a little loose
Conclusion: A lovely pattern but unless you are very confident about your size I recommend a muslin for the bodice and the midriff - inc the ties at the shoulder
