|Pattern Description: Misses Top and Tunic: top or tunic (loose-fitting through bust) has tuck variations and back zipper. I made view C.|
Pattern Sizing: A5 (6, 8, 10, 12, 14) It also goes up to size 22. I made size 8.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes except I eliminated the CF seam.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I'm a big fan of tucks. I love how the tucks on this top give you a crazy-good shape. The only real dislike I have was with the CF seam. There was no shaping whatsoever involved with it so I removed it. I really dislike CF seams and take them out whenever possible. Rant over.
Fabric Used: This was another stash fabric purchased in Jan. of 2012 described as Marc Jacobs Clipped Weave - Sapphire Flowers. This must have been the beginnings of MJ's daisy phase. I'm certain the body of this is silk faille. It looks, feels, and behaves like it is. I'm anxious to purchase more silk faille because it's dreamy to work with...love it.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: As noted above, I eliminated the CF seam, cutting that piece on the fold and making sure the motifs were straight down the middle of the piece.
I also added 1" at the shorten/lengthen line to the front and the back.
I added stay tape at the shoulders.
For construction I serged all the edges of the pieces, sewed them with 5/8" SA's and pressed open. I thought it was the best way to use with this fabric and the seams look neater than pressing to the back like the instructions suggest.
I never follow the instructions for doing zippers.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I plan on making view D (longer tunic length) in something drapey, maybe a silk crepe or the piece of stretch satin chiffon I've got. The view with the collar is really cute too.
I would recommend it to others.
Conclusion: This seems to be the 'month of summer tops' for me, and I've got more planned. I am so happy to have used this MJ fabric. I think this pattern was perfect for it and I will really enjoy wearing this top.
