|Pattern Description: |
Semi-fitted, partially interfaced, lined jacket has shoulder pads, sleeve headings, side panels, no side seams, back vents, and two-piece sleeves with vent, button/buttonhole trim.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It's a reasonable approximation, yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
It is definitely an advanced pattern, but the instructions do a fairly good job of breaking the steps down into manageable tasks. I deviated from the instructions when I swapped in fusible interfacings; the instructions are for all traditional sew-in interfacings.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like that it is a classic men's jacket with a modern fit.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I did a full-bicep alteration on the sleeves. Added interfacing from cap of sleeve through bicep to support/structure upper sleeve. Traded fusible interfacings for the traditional sew-in ones. Put in 1" shoulder pads rather than the 1/2" called for. I also accidentally put the buttonholes on the wrong side of the jacket (the wearer thinks its a "cool" and "unique" touch. I apologized to him profusely.)
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will almost certainly sew it again (I even bought fabric for the purpose). Though it takes hours and hours of work, even with the fusible interfacing short-cuts I took, it was an overall fun project and I feel like it really stretched my skills; I'd like to keep improving them by making more jackets. I would recommend this to an advanced or really ambitious intermediate sewer willing to put in a lot of time and effort to make something special.
Tough project, but so spectacular to be able to make a men's suit.
