|Pattern Description: From the Cake Patterns web site:|
"The Cabarita knit top has cap or elbow length sleeves ending in a wide banded cuff. The front roll collar is based on a 1930's knitting pattern and fits very well into a modern wardrobe. Optional v-shaped "dessert stripe" bias cut back for extra effect and a more flattering fit. The pattern includes a cutting line variation for a plain cut back neck as well as stripe guides for a designer effect!
Cabarita is a rocky beach in northern New South Wales, beloved by the locals for its surfing and its beauty. This chic and easy to wear top is the perfect summer staple in stripes or in plain fabric."
Here is a picture of the back with the stripe placement:

Custom Cake sizing for a 30"-55" full bust.
Choose your pattern size by your full bust, then draw in your side seam according to your hip size. You can pin fit to add optional waist shaping.
My full bust measurement put me squarely in a size 45 and traced a 47" hip, so that's what I sewed. I felt that the ease was appropriate--not too tight or too loose.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, although you will need to shape your side seams to get waist shaping as pictured.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
As others have mentioned, the "RiFF" series from Cake doesn't have detailed instructions. These patterns are meant for seamstresses with some experience and only contain brief "order-of-construction" style instructions (similar to early StyleArc). There were a few steps where I felt that another sentence or so of detail was merited, but I thought that these were fine for the target audience.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: I loved how fast this went together and that it's a fun and unique design. (Totally time to trace, cut, and sew the top was somewhere between 3-4 hours.) Love that Steph provided layout options especially for stripes. I love the idea of the RiFF line (patterns with minimal instructions aimed at Intermediate or more advanced sewists), and she executed this pattern well.
Shadow stripe cotton knit from Gorgeous Fabrics. This was a nice, beefy cotton knit that was similar in weight to a ponte knit. I love this fabric and am glad that I bought enough to make a dress after finishing this top.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None. I simply followed Steph's custom sizing instructions. I am happy with the fit, although I could have pin-fitted out a little more waist shaping.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would definitely sew this again (next version, I'm planning to use a solid knit with a contrast collar and binding). I would recommend this to anyone who has made knit tops before and is comfortable with minimalist instructions.
Great pattern! I've already ordered the Bonny top and am looking forward to more releases from this line. (I am also planning to make the Tiramisu dress and Hummingbird separates.)
