|Pattern Description: |
I find Today's Fit patterns a little quirky and hard to describe; so I'll let Vogue's writers describe it. "Semi-fitted blouse. Shirred effect is caused by elastic sewn to seams. A,B: Optional trim or cording. A: Optional sleeve tabs."
This pattern included all sizes in one envelope which made tracing a little difficult. But, if I can trace Burdas, I can trace anything.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Not really. One of the things I like about this pattern is the options it provided. It can be color-blocked or solid, trimmed or untrimmed, long or capped sleeves, buttons or snaps. My combination of options was not pictured on the pattern envelope.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Sandra Betzina provided extra tips and techniques in her Today's Fit patterns. The instructions were easy and the tips, in this case hemming with Steam-a-Seam and shirring with clear elastic were helpful. I didn't use the Steam-a-Seam hemming technique because I couldn't find 1/4" Steam-a-Seam. Sandra has you apply the S-A-S to the right side of the hem and double fold it, the iron to adhere the hem before sewing. I just serged the edge and used the serging as a guide for folding up the hem.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
When I saw Sandra Betzina wearing this blouse, it just spoke to me. I can't pick out a single design detail I like more than the others.
My favorite fabric - LINEN
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made this straight out of the envelope.
I love sewing and wearing linen, in spite of the wrinkles. I loved the color on the bolt, but it's not the best for my skin. Still, I'm happy with this top because it represents a change for me. I usually sew Burda and I usually stick to
boring very basic designs. This is a nice, light top for summer. and it will be perfect for the 90º+ days I know are coming.
