|So sorry these are quick temporary photos. I am not home today. I wanted to get a review up before deadline.|
Better "On Body " photos coming soon !!
Fabulous fitting, ready to wear style jeans with narrow legs, contour waistband no CB seam. Waistband sits about 2 inches below natural waist. Back is higher than front. Front pockets extend into stays sewn into CF. For a great front flat look! Lining fabric is used for pockets with denim sewn on top of front pocket yokes. Less bulk this way. 3/8 inches seam allowances. Sewn on fly.
Size 6-30. I normally use an 8 in Style Arc patterns (38 Burda, 12 Big Four) but instead bought a 10 so I could modify if needed.
BASED ON A SIZE 10:
Waist = 75cm or 29.5"
Front rise including waist band = 25cm or 9.75"
Back rise including waistband = 38cm or 15"
Hip = 98cm or 38.6"
Leg opening = 33cm or 13"
Contoured waistband width = 4cm or 1.5"
Knee circumference = 35.5cm or 14"
And I did modify/alter.....see below.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
hmmm I made quite a few changes, cut on fly, front little flap pocket,
front flap pocket Here
back flapped pockets,
back pocket Here
lowered front and back rise, legs a half inch narrower. Line drawing on pattern envelope similar basic style.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Well Style Arc typically has minimum instructions but these actually had some diagrams and way more step by step instructions.
However these were my second pair of Style Arc Sandra jeans, the first were right out of the envelope and I did NOT like and could not understand their method of doing the fly...a more RTW way by sewing CF seam AFTER installing fly. I believe Child of the Wild's jeans are made that way and she has a video link video link here
Well I could not figure out how to do that
First pair had zipper peeking a bit
This pair i followed a Vogue jean instructions. And Burda jean installation by NOT basting the whole CF all the way up. And sew zipper about 1/4' IN from CF so completely hidden. You need a cut on fly facing to do this. I believe RTW may do this too but trim off xcess facing later. I did this zipper this way too.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
LOVE LOVE the fit.....I will show picture soon. Original fit bit too high a rise for me. I don't like jeans up by my waist.
A lovely very dark wash, almost black, 9.4 oz stretch denim, 98% cotton, 2% lycra. From Fabric .com, a steal for $2.79 a yd. 50" wide shrunk to 47" and 3 1/16 shrunk to 2 7/8. White Gutermann topstitching thread, regular in bobbin and both regular for bar tacks. Metal zipper. Quilting cotton for waistband and pocket and fly facings.
White braid for horse shoe pocket design, jean tack buttons from ebay Click Here lovely black and silver roses design.
Silver rivets to match from Joanns set with Dritz Rivet tool 652100, the fastest easiest and stress free way to set rivets IMHO :}
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Narrowed legs slightly. I angled in from knee to hem about 1/2" but also sewed 5/8" SA's instead of 3/8". Lowered front and back rise a good 2 inches. Raised front crotch curve a good 3/4 " Its perfect, not a single front wrinkle. Back crotch as is is fabulous. Back butt width is too.
I copied some True Religion jeans with horse shoe design on pocket with sewing two rows of braid and making pointy pocket flaps and adding a front flapped 'coin' pocket. Double CB belt loops.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
LOVE these Sandra jeans. A good TNT to make many more with different design/fabric changes.
So comfy and dark wash makes them very classy to still wear to work or with a sparkly top to go "out on the town" Also GREAT with white tees or a big flowy white button down shirt. Narrow hem can be rolled up to wear with sandals for a cool new look, or full length with heels/flats.
