I made view A. If the pattern envelope photo puts you off - no worries the fabric makes all the difference!
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, I plan to make a couple more
Leaving off the bows and front band would give a different look too.
I left off the bows.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, but there is little help for the back neckline V. That V has to be just right. I suggest that you clip all the way to the dot after reinforcing and be sure not to sew over any excess fabric near the center V point or dot when encasing the raw edges of the neckline in the neck band assembly. Also do not trim the extra fabric as they suggest after pressing under the seam allowance and that way you have a little wiggle room when sewing it down inside.
I made this dress once before and I hand sewed everything as they said to. This time I entirely machine sewed this dress. I switched to the vintage 201-2 for the zipper and it all looks better to me using the concealed zipper foot instead of the narrow zipper foot I was using before... I stitched in the ditch for the bodice lining. I also sewed the lining to the zipper tape instead of hand sewing and then turned it for nice corners. Side Zip
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
i love this pattern as it is very figure flattering and except for the back V is easy to do.
I did make a major mistake though because the front and back assemblies are basically a shaped wide piece with two shaped smaller pieces on either side. I was super tired and spaced out (I know I have done these dumb things so many times when fatigued!)
and after sewing one side piece to the large center piece, I sewed the remaining side piece to the wrong side. This was an annoying lot of unpicking to do... but I did it and everything is where it should be now argh...
Cotton print my dd picked out... white pre-washed cotton for the lining and sew-in interfacing.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
YES - especially if you want to enhance your waist.
