|Pattern Description: from the pattern back: 'Misses Top: Pullover top has neck and sleeve bands B: Overlapped back, flesh will show; shaped hemline, wrong side shows on B, loose-fitting, stitched hems, and tacking forms twist effect on band.' |
Well, I'm not afraid...I'll make view B that shows the flesh! LOL I think that's so funny how they described this view...they could have said peek-a-boo back or partially open back or something less dramatic. LOL Too funny!
Pattern Sizing: Y (Xsm 4-6, Sml 8-10, Med 12-14) I made the Small based on experience with Vogue patterns. I usually always need an 8-10 in a Vogue knit top.
Once again there are no ease measurements on the tissue front piece for this view. I've run across several patterns now where that info is nowhere to be found. Anyway, if you go with your normal knit top size I think you'll be fine. You can see that I still have plenty of room in this top.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I believe so.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes they were super easy.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It's a cute little top; the sleeve band treatment is kinda fun and the back of course is different.
As for dislikes - I like having ease measurements and they are missing on this pattern. There were also some circles missing from piece #7 which is the back top piece...the circles are rather important as they tell you where to line up the bottom back piece so I just had to layout the two backs and make my own markings. Also, the neck band piece was too long...I took 2 full inches off the band piece in order to have some stretch in it when sewing it onto the neckline. If you don't stretch the band when sewing it to your neckline the band will not lay flat when you wear it.
The view pic on the pattern shows the stripes going in the opposite direction on the neck and sleeve bands, which is probably how most people would like, but if you want that look you need to change how the pattern pieces are laid out...ignore the grainline arrows on those pieces...if your fabric stripes go selvedge to selvedge.
Fabric Used: I loved this fabric when I first saw it. I loved it when it came and couldn't wait to use it. It's a 'Hugo Boss yarn-dye stripey knit - lime/navy'. As you will see, it was actually a problem child...I rinsed it in cold water and then used a delicate dry as usual. It looked fine until I laid it out to cut...oh my. It was so crooked! I still managed to get everything cut out. It was supposed to be used for another pattern but when I discovered the problem I had to change my plan.
The only place I tried to line up the stripes was at the side seams.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added stay tape to the shoulder seams. I changed the layout of the neck band and the sleeve band pieces to change the direction of the stripes on those areas. Unfortunately the neck band stripes ended up kind of matching in one area so that looks a little bad. And the bottom stripe is also a little off. Oh well.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I probably would make it again. I have heard good things about the other views so maybe I'll do one of those.
I would recommend it as long as you know you are going to have to adjust the neck band length, put in the circle markings on the back, and change the layout direction of the neck and sleeve band pieces if you want the same look as the pattern pic, if you use a striped fabric, that is.
Conclusion: This is a fun little top.
