Gigi, the curtains look great - very Pottery Barn. ( That's a compliment: I love Pottery Barn.) The wall color is coffee-ice-cream yummy, too. What a nice, fresh, breezy look.

Beautiful curtains! We're moving in a month, and I'd really like to make some new curtains for all the windows. I've bought several patterns, but haven't decided on which style, or fabric, yet.

Very pretty, Gigi! I'm getting ready to jump into a drapery project myself, so your review is very helpful to me.

I echo "drsue's" comment and now want to rain on the parade. You are in a high humidity zone. If there is any possibility that these drapes will be subject to humidity you might consider shortening them to allow for the droop that the moisture will incur. Also will the clips result uneven droop? I am no expert but do sew drapes and know through professional association that linen and humidity are a problem in Fl.

Yes, it's quite humid here already! I did measure the finished length 1/2" above the floor just in case they hung out longer. I can't see it becoming a problem though since we run our air year-round. Because I used the Ban-Rol monofilament in the top hem I'm not getting the drooping between clips that I had on my test piece.

Gigi, I have 36 yards of somewhat discolored should-be-white Irish linen, and would very much like to see that message board thread, but can't find it. I've entered "whiten linen" as my search phrase, but since I don't know which "thread" to search in the Search function doesn't seem very useful. I'm new to the message board thing (obviously) -- any hints? Thanks!

Julia, here's the link to our discussion: http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/board.pl?t=6762 I also tried Cascade as recommended on Sewing World (the gel as it contains bleach). What worked best for me was a good long soak in hot water and OxyClean. HTH!

These turned out so much more visually appealing that if you had just done a one-piece fabric treatment. You killed 2 birds with one stone today....got rid of a bit of stash and now have some smart-looking curtains!

The curtains are so wonderful, Gigi !! ( So crisp and summery.) I love the color of your walls- it reminds me of a gorgeous iced coffee drink! Thanks for the tip to look for the curtain rods at Joann fabrics. How do you keep the clips from attaching themselves together?

Congrats on turning wicked stash into usable stuff! The metamorphosis was time-consuming but the end result... I wonder if the linen curtains will keep the house cooler than poly ones? :)

Beautiful curtains, Gigi! I love the white with "beige" color scheme for decorating, and the clips you used are just perfect!

I love making window treatments for some of the very reasons you discussed here- windows are easy to improvised your way out of mistakes on, and they don't complain about how it fits when you are done! They turned out beautifully. Ready made, they'd of cost you a small fortune!

Thank you all for your nice comments! Jennifer, the little clips don't attach themselves to each other at all. While I don't love making curtains I love the $$ I save. I know what my DMIL pays for her custom items - $600 for a shower curtain and valance. Eek!

Gigi, I love the curtains and the white against the cafe au lait walls is one of my favorite combinations- so clean looking. I have a similar color in my dining room and I love it. (actually, mine's a little more mocha-like--makes me crave chocolate!)

Gigi, the curtains look great! What a wonderful and creative "save" for the bumps in the road. No one but all of us here would ever know these weren't exactly as you planned from the start. The wall color is great too and I can't wait to try it out in one of the rooms of the house we're remodeling -- if we EVER get to that point.
