humidity zone. If there is any possibility that these drapes will be subject to humidity you might consider shortening them to allow for the droop that the moisture will incur. Also will the clips result uneven droop? I am no expert but do sew drapes and know through professional association that linen and humidity are a problem in Fl. 4/10/05 3:53 PM
Gigi Louis said... Yes, it's quite humid here already! I did measure the finished length 1/2" above the floor just in case they hung out longer. I can't see it becoming a problem though since we run our air year-round. Because I used the Ban-Rol monofilament in the top hem I'm not getting the drooping between clips that I had on my test piece. 4/10/05 4:01 PM
Julia Graham said... Gigi, I have 36 yards of somewhat discolored should-be-white Irish linen, and would very much like to see that message board thread, but can't find it. I've entered "whiten linen" as my search phrase, but since I don't know which "thread" to search in the Search function doesn't seem very useful. I'm new to the message board thing (obviously) -- any hints? Thanks! 4/10/05 4:39 PM

Julia, here's the link to our discussion: http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/board.pl?t=6762 I also tried Cascade as recommended on Sewing World (the gel as it contains bleach). What worked best for me was a good long soak in hot water and OxyClean. HTH! 4/10/05 4:55 PM

Thanks for the tip to look for the curtain rods at Joann fabrics. How do you keep the clips from attaching themselves together? 4/10/05 7:18 PM

I love making window treatments for some of the very reasons you discussed here- windows are easy to improvised your way out of mistakes on, and they don't complain about how it fits when you are done! They turned out beautifully. Ready made, they'd of cost you a small fortune! 4/11/05 7:24 AM
Gigi Louis said... Thank you all for your nice comments! Jennifer, the little clips don't attach themselves to each other at all. While I don't love making curtains I love the $$ I save. I know what my DMIL pays for her custom items - $600 for a shower curtain and valance. Eek! 4/11/05 8:13 AM

No one but all of us here would ever know these weren't exactly as you planned from the start. The wall color is great too and I can't wait to try it out in one of the rooms of the house we're remodeling -- if we EVER get to that point. 4/12/05 8:38 AM
