|Pattern Description: |
Dress/top with overlays.
Multi-sized. I used XL, grading to XXL for waist on tank top.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I didn't really use them. I'm sure they are OK.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved how floaty the overlay is. When I first tried it on, I wanted to twirl!
I didn't like how much fabric it used- close to 3 yards for the overlay. There really was no way to skimp on the yardage, especially since I wanted to catch as much of the color as I could from my fabric. It graduated to little color, then just white along one selvage.
I also liked how well the tank fits. I will probably use this pattern to make tanks or modify for other T-shirts.
I fell in love with the chiffon. It was Hancock's value fabrics for $5/yard. The tank top is made from a white pigue knit I found at Wallie World for $1.50/yard.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I thought I would be so smart and make the top band like I do with leotards. Unfortunately, as I put the band folded in half on the neckline edge, the neckline GREW. It was awful! I had to pick it all out. No fun.
I also changed the order of construction. I sewed shoulders, then hemmed armholes. It is easier while the shirt is flat.
I used the differential feed on my serger to gather the neckline. I really didn't need to fuss with it after that, The machine took up about the right amount.
Then I made the bias band they have the pattern piece for. It worked beautifully. You can see it a bit here.
in my favorite store- Hancock's
If I had done it the right way, it would have only taken about 1 hour to make, other than cutting.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will make this again. It is so comfy and twirly! Easy to make and nice results.
Try it! You'll like it!
