|Pattern Description: |
pattern includes a fully lined wrap tunic/dress, mini skirt, and pants. i made the tunic and the pants in a shorts length.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
yes, the wrap top does. the pants... well the fit is atrocious and quite big. more below...
Were the instructions easy to follow?
i didn't follow them.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
i love the top in this pattern! it's very cute and really, who doesn't love a little DVF-inspired wrap?
the pants on the other hand... i know we love to hate on the big 4, and the pants here are a classic example of terrible drafting. the crotch seam is way too far back (think bulging in the front, near-wedgie in the back), and overall they are bigger than the envelope illustration. if you know anything about pant alterations and want to make a muslin beforehand you can work out the problems, but otherwise stay away from these pants!
top: stretch cotton poplin
shorts: lightweight twill
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
my one complaint about the top is that it calls for a full lining--sleeves, bodice, and skirt/peplum. really only if you are using an eyelet is this necessary. i used bias tape to finish the whole neckline edge instead. after all, i wanted this to be a summer/early fall top and a lining would make it terribly hot.
for the pants, i drafted a proper fly facing and shield and added the front pockets.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
i definitely recommend the top or dress. it's very cute and has a pretty good fit.
the pants... well i know how to make the necessary adjustments to get a proper fit so chances are i'll use it again. but if you're one of those people who find pants a total mystery, i'd look elsewhere!
final verdict: top... YES! pants... NO!
