|Pattern Description: |
vintage baby romper, bikini, panties and bonnet
3 mo, 6 mo, 12 mo, 18 mo
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Instructions were fine.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Loved the nostalgia of the criss-crossed straps on the bare back. Also, the ruffles on the bloomers don't end in a side seam, but continue around to the front for several inches on each side. This is hard to see, but it increases the volume of the bloomers and makes the outfit.
Good quality cotton from our local quilt shop. I edged the ruffles with two passes (first one narrow, second one wider) of wooly nylon and a rolled serger hem. Finding the wooly nylon locally was difficult. I think one pass might have been better for such a small garment.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
This pattern's sizing is way off. I made the 6 mo. size for my 9 mo grandaughter, who is solid, if you know what I mean. It was still too large. Perhaps the bloomer part is big because it was adapted from a pattern when all children wore big cloth diapers? Anyway, the straps were two inches too long and the waist elastic measurements were at least an inch too long. This outfit is adorable when finished, but I wouldn't recommend doing this long distance. I had to fit it once and then shorten the straps and elastic a second time to get it right.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
If I get busy, I might make one more version before summer is over.
High impact project, because the ruffles are so stinky cute!
