Upon seeing Julie Starr's "Ribbon Skirt" on the PR website and then finding Goodbye Valentino's sew-a-long I had to join in.
Julie's rendition is inspired by the J McLaughlin ribbon skirts that a lot of people have admired.
Size and Fabric: My skirt is self drafted and would be a size 6 in the Big 4. I used A Day in the Country quilting cotton as the skirt base and used around 25 metres of 38mm (1 1/2") gross ribbon.
This sized grosgrain ribbon was difficult to find in Australia and I found some wonderful sites with great service - Sarah Lauren who is located in Australia and Crafts Now who ship to Australia free of charge from Hong Kong.
Instructions: There is very well set out sew-along on Goodbye Valentino's blog.
I started with my self drafted TNT skirt pattern and then followed the instructions from the sew-a-along.
Do I recommend? Will I sew it again?
I do recommend this skirt as it a lot of fun even though it takes a lot of precision sewing to achieve such a fun skirt. I don't think I will sew another one, as it is very distinctive.
Conclusion: The best bit is that the skirt does not wrinkle after sitting which is a huge plus in my mind and putting it together is a lot of fun seeing it come to life.
