Pattern Description: The Moss is a semi-fitted skirt that sits slightly below the natural waist and works up well in a variety of fabrics, from denim to wool to corduroy and many fabrics in-between. Skirt features a fly front and button closure as well as a yoke at the back. If mini isn't quite your style, add the hem band to create the longer silhouette of View B
Pattern Sizing: 0-18. Per the pattern measurements, I need a 14 waist and 12/14 hips. So I cut a 14 waist, a 14 back and a 12 front. That combo worked out perfectly size wise.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I went with view B. Yes it did. I was thrilled about that.
Were the instructions easy to follow? This time I did follow the instructions, thinking perhaps I could learn some new techniques. They were all very good, nice numbered steps until I got to the fly extension and zipper insertion. It was very confusing and made for amateurist result if not extremely careful. Next time I will cut the fly extension on the front pattern pieces and then follow Debbie Cook's fly tutorial. Click Here
The waistband pattern piece is missing the marking for side seam, and mine ended up about 1.5" short. Not sure if it was the pattern or user error. I ended up adding to the piece at the extension end.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the casual fit and style. The lower band makes it a bit different than your usual straight skirt. The lower waist makes it a flattering fit as well. And the pockets. Love pockets on a skirt!
Fabric Used: I used a laundered bull denim in mustard from Fabric.com
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did not make any changes.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I love this skirt. I will be making it again. I think it
will move nicely into fall with boots and tights.
Conclusion: So far I have tried 2 of the 3 Grainline Studio patterns that I purchased. I love them both. If you like a simple straight skirt, give this one a try, you won't be disappointed.
