|Pattern Description: |
"The soft pleats on the front neck edge of this top look like ornaments, but the shimmering, special-effect jersey tells the real story here."
34-42 - I made the 36 tapering to 38 at the hip
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Sort of - I made a few "modifications"
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Couldn't find my copy of the magazine, so I winged it. Judging from other reviews, they were not the greatest.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the gathers and raglan sleeves.
Some rayon fabric I had leftover from jacket lining. It was the perfect weight for this top.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Because I didn't have the instructions, I was just joining seams by the seam numbers that Burda includes. (There are little numbers at seam corners)
But then, I wasn't concentrating and sewed the back shoulders to the front raglan neckline.
When I tried it on, I couldn't get the top over my head. (Obviously). I thought to myself - well, this must be why there is a zip.
Since I didn't want to add a zip, I decided I'd just lower the neckline so that it's wider and fits over my head.
When I tried to sew up the side seams and I had an extra flap of fabric, I realised the error in my ways. (Insert a few frustrated expletives here)
Then I had a moment of panic that the neckline would be way too low now, since my "design alteration".
I think, though, that it worked out quite nicely and I prefer the lower line.
I had to change the front facing piece to accommodate this lower neckline.
My method for attaching the facings:
- sew front and back facings together
- sew facing to neckline, right sides together
- understich the fabric to the facing
- hand sew the facing to shoulder and raglan seams to prevent facing flipping out
Full shot - with Lucy the dog
Full shot - with a horse!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I don't plan on sewing this again immediately, but if the right fabric came along, I'd consider it.
It's a sweet design and will make a good Summer work shirt.
