|I don't think I'll ever use this pattern as is, because I think its a blank canvas for your creativity! Case in point - Heart Ruffle Shirt. |
I just bought a cute peplum tee for my daugther from OldNavy. When she wore it, she said "Mama, its a shirt with a skirt!"
How right she was. The thing is that she is obsessed with skirts these days and I cannot get her to wear anything else so when she was excited wearing this t-shirt, I got to work. I had to make more of these! A more sensible mom would run to Old Navy to buy more, but not me
This style was super easy to copy. A basic t-shirt would be good. I turned to my trusty Jalie 2805. The only alteration I needed to do was to chop off about 3 inches from the front and back and make bands which were roughly about twice the width of the shirt. Then I gathered them up, sewed them to front and back and we were done!
Of course, to get a similar look we needed something on the front. I followed this tutorial online to try my hand at freezer paper stenciling. I couldn't believe how easy (and entertaining) it was. I want to freezer paper stencil everything in the house!
Pattern Description: Choice of t-shirts with 4 sleeve lengths and 4 neckline variations: Jewel neck (A), Mock turtleneck (B), V-Neck (C), overlapped V-neck with decorative buttons (Henley) (D).
Pattern Sizing: Pattern is sized for a 2 year old to a 50 inch full bust! I chose size for a 3 year old and its spot on. I love Jalie!
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? No, because I made changes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? I didn't even look at the instructions. It's a basic t-shirt.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I llove that there are so many options for all kinds of sizes. I think I can build a whole wardrobe with just this pattern.
Fabric Used: Rayon Lycra Knit.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: See above.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely. I hope they never discontinue this pattern.
Leggings: To complete the outfit, I made leggings using the Go to Leggings pattern in a striped knit.
Conclusion: This photoshoot turned into a jumping photo shoot. I guess she likes it! Yay, we have a non-skirt outfit!
