Pattern Description:
From the pattern envelope: Version A made of lambskin imitation, biker style, with zipper. Version B: duffle coat with toggle-fasteners and patch pockets, fashionably trimmed with fur.
I made version B.

Pattern Sizing:
8-18, I made a 12, which I felt was too big, I would recommend to size down one size.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes and no. My version is much more conservative than the one on the envelope. I wanted something I could wear to work or out for an evening. Also, the coat on the envelope looks like it has almost an A line flare at the bottom, but the pattern is not cut that way at all.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
I'm not one for reading instructions and Burda tends to be fairly word heavy. I did feel that there were some areas of construction that having more experience would leave you with a more professional garment vs. following the Burda instructions.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the lines of the coat, they are very classic. I think this pattern can be used to create several different looks, beyond just the two included in the envelope.
I disliked the amount of ease included in this pattern. As I noted above, if starting over I would consider sizing down. I had the shell completed, including top stitching, before I tried it on and realized there was too much ease across the back and through the body of the coat. Because there is a yoke in the back it really limited my ability to fix this issue without reworking the whole coat. I did my best to adjust through the side seams, but the neck line is still a bit too big. The width of the arms as well were very large.
Fabric Used:
wool coating
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Because of the ease issue I mentioned above, I recommend making a muslin of this pattern first. Save yourself the frustration, especially on such a big project. I took about a 1/2 inch off each side seam, and reduced the width of the sleeve by 1 1/2 inches total.
As a rather petite person, I thought the oversized collar and pockets could look over powering, maybe even make the coat look too big for me. So, I cut down the width of the collar by 1 inch, and took 2 inches out of the length of the pockets.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I do think I'll sew it again. Now that I have the fit down, I would be willing to make it again. I like the classic lines. It will be fun to have a versatile town coat version of it. I recommend making a muslin to test the fit.
Conclusion:
Great coat with classic lines. Not overly complicated for someone who is an experienced beginner to an intermediate level sewer.
