|Pattern Description: Dramatic and elegant, the Gabriola Skirt is a flared maxi skirt that sits at the waist and falls to the floor.|
Many maxi skirts are shaped like a tube, straight up and down with no curves, but not this pattern. The Gabriola Skirt is flared to create a curvy A-line silhouette, narrowing the waist and elongating the body. Angled panels around the waist flatter the figure and look especially good in striped fabrics.
Pattern Sizing: 0-16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Absolutely
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. The skirt goes together very easily!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the angled yoke panels I think they are particularly flattering and certainly make this skirt stand out in the field of maxi skirt patterns.
I did find the waistband sat away from my waist a little - I think I can fix this by creating a curved waistband.
I'm 5 foot 4 and had to cut quite a bit from the hem to make the skirt wearable - it is LOOOOONNNNNG.
Fabric Used: Rayon
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I Frenched seamed all of the seams with the except of the back seam (which I roll hemmed) and the seam where the front yoke joins the front skirt.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely - in fact I'm making it in silk next.
Conclusion: A really beautiful elegant skirt that flares out beautifully and feels very feminine on. For all the pictures go to my blog SewBusyLizzy.
