Have you bought anything from this store? If yes were the prices competitive?
I've been going to this store on and off for about 20 years. Over that time I've bought many different fabrics but mostly knits and cottons...if you can find what you are looking for the price is more than fair. My recent visit got me some quilting cottons at $3-4/yard and an acrylic double knit $6/yd as well as a slinky-type for $4/yd. If you sign up for their mailing list they will send you a postcard with sales. On holidays they frequently have the whole store 30-40% off..a steal!
Were the sales people polite and friendly?
The salespeople are very friendly and efficient; they mostly cut the fabric and ring at the register, it's not a place where you go and ask specific questions like 'can I make this fabric in this style' or 'how do you do this'.
How would you rate the quality of the item this store sells?
The store is basically a warehouse in a factory type of location. The fabrics are 'cut lengths' of fabric laid out in stacks on tables. They have it pretty well sorted so that there are tables of knits, cottons, silkies, etc. Each length of fabric is marked with the price and how much fabric is left in the length...I believe you have to leave 1/2 to 1 yard on the piece depending on the type of fabric. In order to shop here you really have to know fabric types and how to judge quality as there are no markings on it to tell you the fiber content or care. I've never had a 'bad' piece of fabric from here but I'm careful about what I pick up.
How was your shopping experience. Is there anything you did not like about this store?
Quite a few years ago they added another room that houses rolls of upholstery and drapery fabrics; at that time I thought the quantity of apparel fabric was going down but on recent visits I've been happy to find that they are still stocking quite a bit. I do not like that they have added 99 cent store type of junk to their inventory, it makes the place look cheap and is unneccessary. At any given time you might find boxes of zippers, serger thread, or buttons. On my last visit they had a box of La Mode discontinued buttons for $1/card. They also carry McCalls patterns.
Would you shop here again?
I go here about once a month; most of the time you have to go with an open mind...maybe with the idea of refilling your stash more than looking for a specific item.
Would you recommend this store to others?
I highly recommend this store if you don't mind looking through stacks of fabric and walking through an old warehouse building. Although you cannot park right next to the building, there is a large parking lot down the road that is available for free parking. The store has a sister store in Rahway and also sells Home dec fabric on EBAY under the store name 'Fabric Warehouse Direct'
Any other comments you would like to add?
I do like this place and I'm happy to have it as an alternative to Joann's.
