Have you bought anything from this store? If yes were the prices competitive?
I visited this store last week. I really liked it. The owner was working and cutting and was very friendly, answering questions about the fabric and greeting the people who came in. Were the sales people polite and friendly?
Yes, the owner works the sales floor (well, the store is so little the whole place is just about the sales floor) How would you rate the quality of the item this store sells?
This is the best part of the store, her fabric is great! It's really good stuff. Sooooo much better than Joann or Hancock. This is not chain store quality, and yet, still less expensive than most of what Silk Road carries.
However, this means you won't go in there and find too many things under $10 a yard. It was mostly over $10 (note, I've changed this paragraph because the owner had emailed me to let me know that I was wrong about the prices, I thought all was over $10, but I guess I missed the basic items that are under $10), but most was under $20. There were some slightly more (wools).
Beautiful linens and linen blends, wools and blends, rayon georgette prints, luscious soft drapey cottons (I bought some to make up some Sewing Workshop patterns). Some nice trims, even some real petersham!
There are a few notions, not many, and nothing you can't buy elsewhere. Very few patterns, and from Loes Hinse and one other small pattern co. I can't remember the name of, but there were very few of them. How was your shopping experience. Is there anything you did not like about this store?
I really enjoyed the hour or two I spent shopping here. It's small, but cheerful, filled with beautiful fabric like I haven't seen in ages, as it was nice, unique, great quality at good prices (you do pay for quality, like I mentioned, this is definitely NOT Joann's, much better!).
Would you shop here again?
I will definitely be going back. I want to be sure to support the store as the owner mentioned being unsure if anybody out here was going to buy better quality garment fabric, so she was happy to have new customers who appreciated the quality of her stock. Would you recommend this store to others?
I do certainly recommend this store to anyone in Austin or anyone visting Austin who wants great fabric, is sick of the crud at the chain stores, doesn't see the fancy stuff at Silk Road as fitting their lifestyle (I know I don't need much embroidered silk), and wants to touch and see fabric in person, and not just order online (which is my usual way to purchase fabric). Any other comments you would like to add?
This store is great. Please visit and support them! It so wonderful to finally have a great resource for garment fabric here in Austin.

I was driving down Lamar today, just happened to catch the title of the store out of the corner of my eye and did a U turn to check it out. What a great surprise. She has really nice fabric - I bought a really cute Japanese birdie print - too cute - to make my granddaughter a dress, some pretty rayon knit for a top and also from Japan, a Nani Iro Knit print. She also had a wide selection of great quality Italian shirting. I will have to be very disciplined - I may not be able to drive down Lamar but once a month!!
Thank you for letting those of us in Austin know of a fabric store that carries garment fabrics! I'll definitely visit and mention why and how I found the store.
