Ever go in a store where you just don't feel welcome? I'm afraid this is the feeling I get when I go in here. This store opened a number of years ago here in my home town. They are the Viking dealer. They carry quilting supplies along with the full line of Viking machines. I have gone in many times over the years, especially for thread. Most dealers I know enjoy talking about the new features on machines they carry; not this one. Whenever I go in this store, which is invariably deserted, I am greeted with a glare and a frown, if at all. I can wander around this store without any offers of help. Perhaps it is because I am male, who knows. I just purchased a Viking NOS on EBay. Any machines I find on EBay go for a checkup and tuneup before I use them, and as this was a Viking, my first, I wanted to discover what would be required for a service on this machine. At first the clerk didn't want to help me at all, and finally got the owner out of the back. He radiated hostility and disdain when I explained what I wanted to do with my Viking, stating that, even though this Viking was several years old in the box, that there would be no reason to have it checked out. By the time I left, I'd decided there was no way I'd turn a machine of mine over to this man. Of course, in all this time, no other customer came in. I purchased the Viking book(let) that I reviewed recently at this store.
How can I explain better the unfriendly atmosphere I come across every time I come in this store? I don't waste people's time, I know what I want; however, it amazes me that these people stay open at all. I live in a relatively small town and local businesses are ordinarily more customer service oriented. I won't say that I will never go back in here; I don't have much in the way of sewing supply stores within an hour of me otherwise. However, I cannot see ever giving anything more than occasional business in minor purchases from these people.

I've got a store like this near me, also..it's like a private club, and I'm not a member..you'd think they would be happy with all the machines you bring them
