A small quilt shop located in the historic district of Bastrop, TX, approximately 30 miles east of Austin. Linda and Duane Hudson opened the new store in Jan 2009. The store's interior is bright and inviting with part of the space set aside for demonstrations and classes. High quality quilting cottons, including some batiks are carried. There is also a small notions area. Books and quilting patterns, including some for tablerunners and other home dec. items are available.
Both owners were in the store the day I visited and were a charming couple, easily engaged in coversation. Linda was cutting for a new display piece and Duane tended the check out counter.
I bought a placemat pattern which Linda had designed. I could have easily bought some fabric except for the several sewing projects waiting at home! Prices for fabric were predominately $8.99/yd with a small area of lower priced cottons.
I find quilting cottons work very well for garment sewing except in cases where the reverse (wrong side) will show as these cottons are printed on the right side only. Batiks are dyed through so both sides are alike and do not present this problem.
I will definitely make the drive back to Bastrop to buy more at Lost Pines Quilt Shop. I think it would be fun to take a friend there and then perhaps have lunch and explore more of the little shops on Main Street. Shop hours are based on summer/winter schedules. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
