On a recent visit to Vancouver, I only had time for 2 fabric stores, and I am so glad I chose Dressew. If you happen to be staying at one of the Harborfront hotels, you can walk to Dressew. On the way back, there is a handy FedEx if you need to ship.
This store is loaded with dress fabrics, home dec, a huge notions selection, plus a lot of inexpensive costume findings, suitable for Halloween or children. Don't overlook their home dec as a source of jacket/apparel fabric. The whole basement is notions, ribbons, trims, buttons, etc.
The sales people are quite helpful. One caveat, especially if you're coming from the US: they only take cash or Canadian debit cards. Luckily, they will take American dollars, but check first. Also, they do not ship.
My #1 stop in Vancouver.
