Have you bought anything from this store? If yes were the prices competitive?
I'm an occasional shopper at this location. JoAnn's opened a second store in North Knox near Knoxville Center Mall last year. The one on Peters Road is larger but busier. The North Knox location is smaller but cleaner and more focused on fabric and sewing notions. As far as I know these two stores are the only ones in Knoxville and the surrounding area selling apparel fabric (which is a shame).
Were the sales people polite and friendly?
As far as they can be. I really, honestly feel for the staff at the West Knox store. They've all been friendly with me but the entire lot look bone weary, especially those staffing the single cutting table in what is a very large store. They are always kept busy (take a number) and I have watched on as other customers have been snappy and rude to them because they're irritated with the wait. Store management is doing a terrible job of leading and encouraging their staff and with helping them to keep up with cutting table traffic during busy times. I don't believe I've ever seen a manager out on the floor helping out. It's quite sad.
How would you rate the quality of the item this store sells?
It's JoAnn's, right? Poor to mediocre for most fabrics with the occasional reasonably decent bolt. I like their rayon/lycra blends and some of their Indian cottons but that's about all I'll buy beyond patterns, Gutermann thread and notions.
How was your shopping experience. Is there anything you did not like about this store?
See the part above about the staff being underappreciated. Things are generally tidy and organized now that the store has been renovated.
Would you shop here again?
Of course. But it doesn't mean I didn't wish there were an alternative. There are over half a dozen Hancock Fabric locations ringing around the city in Asheville, Cookeville, Chattanooga and the Tri-Cities but none in Knoxville and for the life of me I can't figure out why since we used to have at least two -- I used to be a frequent shopper at the ones in Bearden and Alcoa before they closed years ago.
Would you recommend this store to others?
Only if there aren't other options. We have a wealth of great quilting, beading, art supply and yarn shops in the area so if you do anything other than apparel sewing you'd be far better off going to one of those shops.
