I sew a lot of mens dress shirts. I have found that using the edgestitcher attatchment for stitching around the collar, helps the collar ends to curve in slightly. That way the ends curve in slightly, next to the tie. This helps in addition to making the facing slightly smaller than the collar piece. The collar piece should be on the top when stitching, so it will curve the right way. This works well for any collar your edgestitching.

You need the kind of edgestitcher that you can also use to insert lace, do seam piping, simplifies blind hemming ans well as french seams.
