I wanted a more realistic shape of my shoulders to hang blouses, dresses, jackets, etc., since I don't have a dressform to display my garments in photos.
After holding a hanger up to my shoulders, in front of a mirror, I decided how it needed to be padded to mimic my shoulder size, and shape or taper.
I cut 3" wide strips of poly quilt batting, and started wrapping it around the hanger. The 3 photos in the link above show this in progress, and totally wrapped. I'd stop every so often and check the mirror until it was shaped like my shoulders.
I may cover this with a skin-colored stretchy knit fabric, when I find some to buy.
This only took about 1/2 hour to rotary cut and wrap...then a few big hand stitches to fasten the last strip.
I have a big bolt of this batting, and I didn't measure how much I used, but I'd guess around 1 1/4 yards of 48" wide, 4 ounce polyester batting. Most women would need less [my shoulders measure 19" across the back].
