I still use shoulder pads due to very sloping shoulders, but what I need are smaller than the Joan Crawford collection I've accumulated over the years. Shoulder pads are too expensive to buy in the quantity that I use. I found that I can alter many old pads for new garments by determining where the pads need to be trimmed to fit (around the curved edge of the pad), running a straight stitch around this edge, and then overcasting the straight stitching before cutting off the excess shoulder pad.
For those pads that are just too big and thick to recycle, try stuffing them in the toes of shoes. They do a good job of keeping the toes of shoes from caving in. |
