For skirts with a side zipper, make the muslin with a center back zip. Simply insert a center back seam with zipper. This will allow you to check the fit and make any necessary adjustments to both side seams without a zipper in the way. Then make the final garment with the zipper on the side.

Using an invisible zipp at the side of a dress, skirt or pants, make any garment neater. If we use the special invisible zipper foot designed for this puspose our wor will look great.

A very common-sense tip! I never thought to do this, but will next time I make one with a side zip. Thanks!

I normally avoid side zippers (too much there), but I really like this tip.
