When using organza in a project, I always save the selvages for later use. They make great stabilizing tapes for areas like lapels, pockets, zippers, shoulder seams, etc. I always keep a handy supply in a little basket next to my machine. I find them less bulky than twill tape, especially on lighter fabrics. And because organza is so tightly woven, it doesn't ravel. Plus, it saves me money and time at the fabric store!
Hope this helps -Ann |
Great tip...organza is indeed a wonder fabric. Larger remnants of silk organza make great press cloths - they're see-thru and can take high heat.

Good idea! I'll have to use this tip Ann... I've been using selvage edges with the cut edge pinked, but I like this idea better. Less bulk. Thanks!

What a great idea - I don't like using strips of interfacing, but they're often better weight than tape. Organza would be perfect. Thanks for the idea.

I also use silk organza in my sewing, I cut it into bias strips and then "steam" the stretch out of it. It's great for holding gathers neatly in place, stabilizing seams or weightlessly finishing a raw edge.

Thank you all. I bought 6 yards of silk organza from Michaels fabrics and wondered why??? did I buy 6 yards? Now I'll have more uses and less guilt.
