Web site/URL: SEAMS To Be
I cannot say enough good things about this class.
The introductory phase of the class covered the essential things that are important in order to even begin to sew a seam of any kind. Things like pressing aids, pressing vs. ironing, needle selection and the basics of seams and seam strength.
I was amazed at the number of different seams that were covered. (approx. 20). Also included were many seaming techniques that were fabric specific. The class covered reinforcing seams, the kinds of and uses for reinforcing aids such as tapes and ribbon. and why one would want to use each type. The class covered both seaming with a SM and a serger.
The illustrations were clear and the instructions were easy to follow. Not once did I fail in an attempt to complete the lesson successfully.(Which is saying a lot, as I don't usually follow directions well).
There is a kit available for this class, which I highly recommend as the lessons utilize many different types and weights of fabrics, and having the kit assures you of using the correct type of fabric. It also makes following the lessons much easier.
The instructor has a wealth of knowledge about how to handle different types of fabrics in varied sewing applications and also has the ability to break down the information so that any level of sewer can understand and benefit from her level of expertise.
The chats were beneficial and covered questions that were student specific ( how to handle as specific situation a student might be working on) as well as lesson specific ( helping one or more students over a hump with a particular seam or fabric application.)
I recommend this class to anyone regardless of your level of sewing. ( unless you are already an expert or into coutre sewing already. My daughter is a home ec. teacher. When she saw what I was working on for class she said that it would be a great review for her...and even covered some things she had never done!!!)
After taking this class, I feel that I have the information to sew any type of garment/project that I would like to tackle.
