I was only able to attend this Expo on Friday but was very glad I did. My particular reason for going was to attend Linda Lee's workshop on sewing with difficult fabrics. It was a wonderful class and well worth the money. The $25 kit included hand dyed silks to make a scarf. I personally retain a lot more from a hands on workshop than a lecture. The fabric was beautiful and, of course, difficult to work with. While we were sewing she also gave us a lot of background information and showed us items she had made as well.
On the down side, since the Expo was new, there were several things that I am sure will be worked out by the next one. For one thing, they scheduled her class in a room with sergers, so for this class we all had to bring our sewing machines. Cal Poly is beautiful but very hilly, so that was fun. Linda said it was just as well since sewing with silk is difficult without having to adjust to machines we weren't familiar with. However, they also didn't provide an iron, which would have made the results much better. I am sure that won't happen again.
I registered very early (in January) and was under the impression I would be able to shop with the vendors in between my two classes. However, they weren't set up on Friday, and since I had to leave early Saturday morning, I didn't spend as much as I am sure I would have.
I would definitely go back again next year. |
Where in California is CalPoly?

The one I know & love is in San Luis Obispo. I guess you'd call it Central Calif, close to the coast.
