|I walked into this store to buy interfacing and fell in love with a rayon/wool pin stripe suiting. The owner was wearing pants from it that looked great. I asked if she offered classes, and she said she teaches 6 days a week and invited me to come, so I jumped at the chance. I was in town visiting my mother, in Massachusetts, and come from California.
Annie's sewing room is set up with several huge cutting/work area tables. She has many good quality elna sewing machine set up, as well as an elna serger threaded and ready to go.
Annie helped me pick a pattern, measured me, showed me how, why, and where to adjust the pattern. We worked on burda 8087 pants.
I took three classes, and while one of them had up to 7 students, Annie was calm the whole time, and never once did I feel like I had to wait around for her attention. She taught me many things that made a big difference in my sewing, and did it all with a lighthearted, caring attitude. It was clear that she loves to teach, and is was very patient with me when I got frustrated a few times trying to match up the pins. I had not expected to come to a class, so had no supplies with me, and she lent me everything I needed, and even let me take home scissors and pins etc, trusting me to bring them back.
She not only followed my construction carefully, but taught me her particular theory and style, which is hard to put into words, but extremely valuable.
She has a very strong following of friendly, warm students, some of whom have been sewing with her for many many years.
The equipment she has in the store for the class is top notch. The irons all worked well, she had plenty of press cloths and sewing hams to go around, plenty of machines, a fabulous serger. She is a very skilled teacher, from matching fabric to pattern, to cut, to pattern adjustment, and most especially to FIT. I had several light bulb moments with her.
She is also a really fun, very nice person to be around. I wish that I lived close enough to take class with her on a regular basis.
If you live in her area, or are visiting and have time for a class, check her web site http://www.appleanniefabrics.com/ for her class schedule. I promise you, you'll be glad you did.
