Following all the posts on PR, I wanted a custom dress form. The Original Sewing and Quilting Expo scheduled in Minneapolis, was offering Jan Bone's, The Dress Form Class. I jumped at it. The class was yesterday and I'm still so excited about it!

First of all, Jan is a wonderful and patient instructor and her assistant Donna was just as great. We worked in groups of three taping each other. She had all of our stations set up in advance with the tape, pamplets and extension cords that each group needed. She showed us step by step how to begin and why we were doing it a certain way. All steps of the process are very well written in her pamphlet, but at the same time she walked us through each new step by demonstrating on one of us. When a student would encounter a challenging area, she'd have us come over to that group and watch her tape. At the end she cut each one of us out of the dress form and helped us staple and tape it back together. She gave us ideas on how to hang or mount the dress form once we got home. We all left the class with a great dress form.

If you volunteer to be the first in your group to be taped, be prepared to stand very still for about two hours. The first form takes longer because Jan walks you through each step. The second and third forms only take about an hour to an hour and a half. After the first form we all had lunch together in the room. After the second form, Jan recommended that we take a break for a few minutes just to give us a rest. The entire class took seven and a half hours, which Jan said is normal, but the Expo people do not put in their flyer. So allow extra time.

I am so thrilled to have a dress form that reflects the shape of my body so well -- can't say I like to look at it, but it will be a great tool for fitting!

One of my partners was an older sweet woman who had a definite dowagers hump. She never had anything that would help her fit garments to herself. Not only did she leave with a great dress form, but Jan gave her suggestions on what style of tops would work well on her and drew the yoke lines on her form! Jan was very compassionate and so willing to help her out. I was so happy for this woman, I could've cried when we saw how that dress form imitated her body.

I highly recommend this class to everyone!

Thanks so much for doing this review! I hope the same class will be given in Atlanta this year. Sounds like I'd like to take this one.
