I have wasted a lot of time looking for scissors, marking pen, tape, pins, needles etc. because I would lay them down and then they would get buried. Now, I keep a small box nearby and if I need to put anything down I put it in the box. I find this habit saves me many a search.

I've tried this, but it only gets buried under the piles after a while. This explains why I have 2-5 of everything.

I use this method too--only my box has a cover as my cat likes to carry off spools of thread & scissors.The chalk wheel was found under the boot bench in the kitchen.

Great tip, Elaine! I do the same thing, except I use one of my fabric bowls.
