|Susan Khalje is an atelier trained couture seamstress, who travels around the country teaching seminars on couture sewing techniques. She also is teaching on-line classes here now.
Nearly 3 years ago I took a Couture Sewing Seminar from her, and loved it. 2 years ago I took her French Jacket class (to make the classic Chanel jacket, although Susan is always very careful to note the distinction and honor the copyrights of the House of Chanel.)
Her classes are expensive, but, if you can swing it, by all means take one.
In the class you will arrive with your muslin made, ready for Susan to fit. From there you will cut your fabric, quilt it, then construct the jacket. Don't expect to completely finish the jacket in a full 6 days of sewing - there is too much work involved, so you will have to finish it once you arrive home.
Susan is a patient and inspirational teacher. She brings loads of samples to look at and touch, She is adept at working with a variety of people of varying skill levels - although note that her classes are geared for at least an intermediate skill level.
I've justified the expense of the jacket class by amortizing it over 3 jackets. One for my mom, out of handwoven fabric that came off my loom, and the others for myself. The jacket I just finished using the techniques I learned in her class is reviewed
