If you are not sure which way the nap goes of you fabric and you kneed to know the right way before you lay out your patternpieces and cut,you can use a coin to determinate the right way of the nap by putting the coin on the right side of the fabric and bang your fist on the fabric which is lade out on the table.The way your coin is moving that is the right way of the nap.

Interesting tip. I will many times take the blunt side of a letter opener or butterknife and gently stroke the fabric so I can tell which way the nap is running. Sometimes a magnifying glass is good to use for examination if it's super fine and even harder to determine after rubbing it that way.
