Many of us find, from time to time, we just don't feel like sewing any longer and wail that our creative juices have dried up and wonder aloud how we can get the juices flowing once more? Read on.....
"FEELING GOOD" a book by David Burns addresses this problem: "Motivation does not come first, action does! You have to prime the pump. Then you will begin to get motivated, and the fluids will flow spontaneously...Individuals who procrastinate frequently confuse motivation and action. You foolishly wait until you feel in the mood to do something. Since you don't feel like doing it, you automatically put it off."
My mother used to say (way before David Burns) sewing was her HOBBY, but when faced with the times she did not FEEL like sewing, sewing then became her JOB and she MADE herself do some every day...until the good, creative feelings returned and sewing became her HOBBY once more.... |
I've been needing motivation forever and I get so easily de-motivated too. Thanks for this advice. I so need it.

Remarkably, this is just what I needed - Today! Today sewing will be a 'job' - but maybe tomorrow a 'hobby'. Thank you!

An interesting idea. I have to add from personal experience that if you have lost interest due to depression no amount of pushing yourself will lead back to enjoyment, you need meds.
