This sewing expo class was taught by Cynthia Guffey. It was a hands-on class where we learned to make bound buttonholes and welt pockets. Both use the same technique. Guffey recommended using micro-tip scissors to cut the pocket/buttonhole open and to cut into the corners. She demonstrated how to do it then we each made our own on a mock-up. Do bring a hand needle threader with you and maybe a magnifying class (pocket size) for threading the #11 sharp needle. She recommends using fray block around the pocket and corner. Apply the fray block with the end of a #16 needle for control. For flap pockets, insert the flap inside the welt. Triangle and circle buttonholes are made the same way just fill in the middle area on each side horizontally with fabric. A guide book is available online to purchase. I will definitely take another class with Guffey. Her patterns and clothes are polished and tailored.
