|This was a "rookie" class offered by the sewing expo Atlanta. Marci Baker was the instructor. She had a wonderful calming manner. She began by putting us at ease. She explained that the points on many quilts don't quite match but in a buzy pattern, you don't notice. For a beginner, she recommended using a print for the backing as this hides stitches till you are more comfortable. Other topics covered were how to align a rotary cutter with your fabric, how to select colors to use, defining color value, and why we use a scant 1/4 inch and not a full 1/4 inch (because thread and turning takes up room). In addition she talked of layering and binding. A pattern for "star Bright" was included with the hand-out. this was a useful class for beginning quilters.
